TILLER, AILEEN T. - Services for Aileen Tillery Tiller, 91, will be 11:30 a.m. Friday, January 25, 2013, at Dunbar Funeral Home, Devine Street Chapel, with burial in Fort Jackson National Cemetery. The family will receive friends from 10:30 until 11:30 a.m. prior to the chapel service at the funeral home. Mrs. Tiller died Monday, January 21, 2013. Born in Knoxville, TN, she was a daughter of the late Cecil and Lucile Phillips Tillery. Mrs. Tiller was active in the Fort Jackson Officers Wives Club and served on the board for many years while her husband was on active duty. She also served for 15 years as either manager or bookkeeper for the Fort Jackson Thrift Shop. A lover of flowers, she was a charter member of Chapter 182, Ikebana International, in Columbia, SC and initially studied the art of Japanese flower arranging while with her husband who was stationed in Tokyo, Japan, in 1954. Mrs. Tiller was elected President of the VFW Post 641, Ladies Auxiliary, and served many volunteer hours at the VA Hospital and with the VFW "Voice of Democracy" and the "Patriotic Art" contest at Columbia schools. She was awarded Outstanding South Carolina Department Chairman for rehabilitation in 1988. Her main hobbies were flower arranging and bridge. She had been an active member of the Thursday bridge group for over 40 years. Surviving are son, Jack M. Tiller, Jr. of Johnston; daughter, Dyanne Tiller-Louko of Cumming, GA; sisters, Evelyn Carter of Knoxville, TN, Lois Sweet of Blairsville, GA; granddaughter, Michelle T. Meek of Rock Hill; great grandson, Nathan Hunter Meek and great granddaughter, Kaylyn Meek. In addition to her parents, she was predeceased by her husband, LTC Jack M. Tiller, and brother, David Tillery. The family would like to give special thanks to her caregivers for the love and support given.
