Barnus Phillips, Age 79 of Monterey, Tennessee passed away on Thursday, January 12, 2023 at his home. He was born on Wednesday, January 12, 1944 in Columbia Hill, Tennessee to the late William C. and Beulah Harris Phillips. Barnus was a factory worker formerly working with an upholstery plant in Baxter and with Perdue in Monterey. He was an avid outdoorsman and a member of Calfkiller Hunting Club. He was a United States Army Veteran during the Vietnam Era and a former member of VFW Post #6277. He was a member of Sand Springs Baptist Church. His family includes his wife: Brenda Tabors Phillips; daughter: Connie (Dale) Parrott of Monterey, step-daughter: Brandy Sisco (Greg Hughes)- all of Monterey; grandchildren: William (Emily) Phillips, Chelsea (Steven) Nugent, Will Phillips, and Ashley Parrott; great-grandchildren: Michael Rittenberry, Stacy Rittenberry, and Rowan Phillips; step-grandchildren: Dakota (Ciara) Pharris, Taylor Pharris, Novah Bailen, Callie Hughes, and Nastacia (Austin) Anderson; step-great-granddaughter: Madysn Jennings; sisters: Mary (Allen) Bilbrey of Rickman, Lucille Jones of Gallatin, Anita Reels of Monterey, Barbara (Harvey) Swack of Monterey, Theresa McDonald of Cookeville; brother: Junior (Kay) Phillips of Rickman. In addition to his parents, he was preceded in death by his son: Sherwin Phillips; sister: Betty Jean (James Howard) Thompson; and step-great-grandson: Liam Andrew Pharris.
