  • Carole McCauley Montoya, of Elizabeth, died Dec. 3, 2010, after an eight-year battle with cancer. She was born May 23, 1944, the daughter of the late Glenn and Ilene Moore McCauley. She resided in Brownsburg, Ind., for nearly 30 years before returning to Elizabeth, where she and her husband, Jim, who preceded her in death in 2008, fulfilled their dream of building a log home and residing on the family farm. She is survived by two sons, Scott (Emma) Montoya of Westerville, Ohio, and Mark (Jessica) Montoya of Idaho Springs, Colo.; two grandchildren, Jackson and Mara Montoya of Westerville, Ohio; and a brother, Lynn (Janet) McCauley of Ripley, W.Va. The first Wirt County West Virginia Fair Queen in 1960, Carole was a 1962 graduate of Wirt County High School. In 1966 she graduated cum laude from West Virginia Wesleyan College with a B.S. in nursing. Carole completed a Master's Degree in Curriculum Development and Continuing Education for health care professionals from the University of Illinois. Most recently, she was senior instructional designer for Clarian Learning Solutions/Clarian Health in Indianapolis, Ind. Her nursing career spanned over 44 years with a wide variety of nursing and administrative experiences. Carole was a member of Alpha Gamma Delta Sorority and the professional organizations of Sigma Theta Tau and the Indiana State Nurses Association. She had been listed in Who's Who in American Nursing, Who's Who in the Midwest and Outstanding Young Women of America. She was a member of Elizabeth United Methodist Church in Elizabeth, W.Va., and previously a member of Calvary United Methodist Church in Brownsburg, Ind. Funeral services will be 11 a.m. Saturday at Elizabeth United Methodist Church in Elizabeth, with the Rev. Lee Williams and the Rev. Ronald McCauley officiating. Burial will follow at Knights of Pythias Cemetery in Elizabeth.
