Reeder FHL Film Number: 2023985 Reference ID: cn 4 CHARLES REEDER, COUNTY PIONEER, PASSES AWAY Charles Reeder, 74, resident of Grant County for 37 years, passed away on January 14th at the McKay Memorial hospital in Soap Lake, after an extended illness. Mr. Reeder was born in Barry, Illinois, March 15, 1869. He came to the Quincy valley where he took up a homtstead (sic) in the fall of 1905, moving to Ephrata in 1915. He was united in marriage to Annie E. McClain on February 11, 1891, and one son, Edwin, was born to this union. He leaves a sister, Anna in Illinois and a brother, Willis Reeder in Spokane. He was a member of the Methodist church, uniting with that church early in life and was always faithful to his Christian belief and faith. Mr. Reeder brought the first telephone line from the Quincy valley into Ephrata, installing the system. He was well known for his inventions of the Reeder tire changer that is the base of all tire changers in use today all over the world. He had a number of other inventions to his credit and was skilled in handling of wood and steel. He was associated for a number of years with L. R. Nelsen in the Nelsen Machine Works and later established his own business which he conducted up to a few days before his last illness. Mr. Reeder was a member for years of the Grant County Sportsmans Association and deeply interested in wild life conservation and game protection. He was also active in the Washington Pension Union, and affiliated organizations. The funeral services will be Saturday at the Presbyterian church at one p. m., with Rev. James Moore of Spokane in charge.
