Notes

  • From Bruce Brancato: "The Brancato family journey begins in Italy in the late 1800's. Grandma, Domenica Maria Zaccagnino was born April 5, 1881 in Avigliano, Potenza and Grandpa Sam/Silverio was born in Feb, 1870. They both immigrated to the United States in the mid 1890's and settled in Fayette County Pennsylvania. Grandma Maria immigrated with her sister Katie who's "arranged" husband to be was Grandpa Sam. As the story goes (with the help of Aunt Eileen), when Grandma spotted Grandpa, the arrangements changed. After they married in 1898 the first of their 15 children, Angelina, was born. Two of the 15 died at very young ages and this web site is dedicated to the surviving 13 children. Grandpa was a coal miner and Grandma kept the home and a family together. Grandpa passed away when Uncle Syl, the youngest, was three years old. Uncle Pete had moved to Cleveland in search of work three years prior to Grandpa dying. Upon Grandpas death, Uncle Pete relocated Grandma and her seven youngest children to Cleveland; Buddy, Louie, Tony, Jim, Joe, Mag and Syl. For many years the Cleveland family had roots in two cities, Uniontown and Cleveland and traveled regularly between them."
