Funeral services for Mr. Elmer Loyd Allen, 79, of Gainesboro, Tennessee, will be held at 2 P.M. on Thursday, July 3, 2014, at Anderson - Upper Cumberland Funeral Home in Gainesboro, TN. Burial will follow in the Flynn Cemetery in Gainesboro, TN. The family will receive friends on Wednesday from 4 P.M. - 9 P.M., and on Thursday from 10 A.M. until time of services. He passed away on Monday, June 30, 2014, at Cumberland River Hospital in Celina, TN. He was born November 13, 1934, in Jackson County, TN, to the late Mate Allen and Allene Allen Strode. He was married to the late Rue Barlow Allen, who passed away August 18, 2001. He was a night watchman at Tri County Vocational School. He was a county commissioner in Jackson County for 29 years, and a member of the Pleasant Hill Church of Christ. He served in the United States Marine Corps. In addition to his wife and parents, he was preceded in death by 1 Brother: Floyd "Red" Allen; and 2 Sisters: Joyce Carmack and Deloise Maynard. Survivors include 2 Sons: Roger Allen and Randall Allen, both of Gainesboro, TN; 2 Grandchildren: Kaula Allen and Cory Allen, both of Gainesboro, TN; and 2 Great Grandchildren: Atri Kilmon and Amy Allen. Several nieces, nephews, other relatives, and friends also survive. Bro. Garry Anderson will officiate at the services. In lieu of flowers, memorial donations may be made to the Charles Ralph Holland Memorial Library by contacting the funeral home.
