  • The Last Will and Testament of Adam Deck of Washington County, Virginia Will Book 4 page 195 & 196 In the Name of God Amen. I, Adam Deck of the County of Washington in the state of Virginia being in good health and sound and disposing mind and memory but calling to mind the uncertainty of life do make this my last Will and Testament in the following manner and form. And first of all I commend my soul to Almighty God who gave it and my body to be buried in a decent Christian manner at the discretion of my executor hereafter named, and as to my worldly estate that it has pleased God to bless me with I dispose of as follows. And first I Will and order that all my just debts be first paid out of my movable estate. Secondly I Will and bequeath to my loving wife Susannah Deck her bed & furniture also her lawful maintanance or right of dower, of the plantation I now live upon also an equal part with that of my children of my movable estate to my said wife Susannah, thirdly I give and bequeath to my son Michael Deck the plantation I now live upon and all the land I now possess to him and his heirs forever excepting his mothers maintenance as before mentioned upon condition that he gives a suitable maintenance to my son George which I consider incapable of doing for himself, the consideration that I have bequeathed to him all my lands also to pay fifteen dollars in trade or commutable articles to cash of children in the manner and order following the first payment on after my decease to Susannah Grubb the next to my son John, the next to Jacob, then Frederick, and then Catarinah Simmerly allowing one year between each payment. And all the rest of my personal estate, I Will and devise that it be equally divided among my children John Deck, George Deck, Jacob Deck, Frederick Deck, Michael Deck, Susannah Grubb and Catharine Simmerly each an equal part. And I do nominate and appoint my sons Jacob Deck and Michael Deck to be executors of this my last Will and Testament. Hereby renouncing all the other Wills and Testaments by me heretofore made declaring this to be my only Last Will and Testament. In Witness whereof I have hereunto set my hand and seal this 3rd day of July 1806. Adam Deck SS Signed sealed & acknowledged in presence of Jacob Barb Michael Mowdy At court held for Washington County the 18th day of June 1816, The last Will & Testament of Adam Deck decd was exhibited into court and proven by the oath of Jacob Barb & Michael Mowdy two of the above witnesses thereto and ordered to be recorded And on the motion of Jacob Deck & Michael Deck the executors thereon named who took the oath of an executor prescribed by law and entered into and acknowledged their bond with Samuel Hurley & Jacob Teator their securities in the sum of two thousand dollars conditioned as the law directs. A Certificate is therefore granted them for the probate of the said Will in due form.
