Gary Gene Oster, 78, of Rome, Georgia passed away on Tuesday, January 3, 2017 after an extended illness. Born September 22, 1938 in New Albany, Indiana, he was the son of the late Elmer J. (Whitey) and Martha Hublar Oster. He is preceded in death by his parents, his son-in-law Charles DeVall, and his stepson Blake Argo. Gary was a member of the Catholic Church. He was a graduate of the Kentucky Military Institute, Purdue University, and Indiana University. A veteran of the United States Air Force, he served on the "Texas Towers" in the North Atlantic. He worked for Ford Motor Company in Louisville, Kentucky for many years. Survivors include his wife of 31 years Glynelle Belcher Oster; sons, Greg Oster of Buffalo Grove, Illinois and Scott (Tylene) Oster of Indianapolis, Indiana; daughters, Susan DeVall of Floyds Knobs, Indiana and Julie (Tony) Cahalan of Charlestown, Indiana; stepdaughters, Cathy (Ricky) Brown of Rome, Georgia and Angela (Vardis) Benson of Ellijay, Georgia; grandchildren Dylan, Grayson and Dallas DeVall, Lauren, Lindsay, and Cory Cahalan, and Xaven and Daxen Oster; step-grandchildren Stephanie (Tony) Storey, Amber (Scott) Shirley, Eric Brown, and Brad Benson; sister-in-law Glynda (Jerry) Kanis; and two great grandchildren. Interment services will be a Military service on Monday, January 23 at 11:00 AM at the New Albany National Cemetery in New Albany, Indiana.
