I believe the birth date on his gravestone is wrong. The 1870 Census record shows his age as 10 indicating that he was born around 1860. Husband of Arvilla The Onaga Herald November 7, 1929 James Hodge was born in Knoxville, Tenn., August 16, 1854 and died from a sudden attack of heart trouble, Oct. 31, 1929 at his home north of Onaga. He lived in Kansas from his 15th year. In 1897 he married Arville Bofee, at Circleville and they made their home there for many years. Ten children were born to them, all of when with their mother survive: Anna Florence, Lee Wakefield, Jesse Charles, Velma Violet, and Opal May of the home; Levi William and Mrs. Mabel Eby of Onaga; Mrs. Maizie Ellen Wilson of Wamego; John James of Soldier, and Mrs. Rose Amanda Migchelbrink of Atwood. There are 10 grandchildren. Mr. Hodge was a member of the Circleville Christian church and there the funeral was conducted Sunday afternoon by Rev. Mayfield, the pastor. The burial was a Circleville.
