Cremated, Ashes given to family or friend, Specifically: Given to wife, Connie Volpi Joseph L. Volpi. Age 77 of Monroe, died at 2:05 p.m. Wednesday, August 7, 2013 at Spectrum Health Butterworth Hospital in Grand Rapids, Michigan. Joe had been in declining health for 3 years. Born January 9, 1936 in Monroe, he was the son of Francis and Edna (Hile) Volpi. He married Connie J. Wilhelm on January 9, 1965 in Monroe. Joe was a 1955 graduate of Monroe Catholic Central High School and served in the U.S. Army from 1962 - 1965. He worked for Michigan Gas as a service technician for 23 years before starting two of his own businesses, Volpi's Plumbing and Best Power Wash which he operated for 7 years. Joe had been a member of the Kingdom Hall of Jehovah's Witnessess since 1971 and all who knew him knew that fishing was his favorite pastime. Joe is survived by his wife Connie of Monroe; three children, Mark (Amy) Volpi of Monroe, Denise (Rodney) Smith of Monroe, and Brian (Karen) Volpi of Wichita, Kansas; a brother, Jim (Annalee) Volpi of Monroe; 5 grandchildren, Jacob, Samantha, Randy, Ali, and Hayden; a step grandson, Michael Brian Gimmy; and several nieces and nephews. Joe was preceded in death by his parents; a son David Volpi, and a sister, Jeannie Volpi. Cremation has taken place in accordance with his wishes. His family will receive visitors Saturday at the Kingdom Hall of Johovah's Witnessess where a memorial service will be held. Elder Brian Skidmore will officiate. Rupp Funeral Home is assisting the family with cremation and funeral arrangements. Memorial contributions may be made to the family or the Kingdom Hall.
