Born August 13, 1922, in Overton County, he was the son of the late John and Essie (Maxwell) Dickerson. He attended Fisk Academy in Hilham, then served in the military during World War II. He served in the Pacific, New Guinea, and Australia. He was awarded the WWII Victory Ribbon, Good Conduct Medal, Theater Ribbon with two Bronze Stars and one Bronze Arrowhead, Philippine Liberation Ribbon with a Bronze Star, Lapel Button and Distinguished Unit Badge. He worked at Chrysler at Tank Arsenal in Detroit, MI for 16 years, and was a barber later in life. He was a member of Acasia Masonic Lodge in Michigan since 1956, a former Lions Club member and a member of First Baptist Church. Survivors include his wife of 59 years, Johnnye E.(Warden) Dickerson of Livingston; a brother, Kenneth Dickerson of Livingston; 2 sisters and a brother-in-law, Marie Stinson of Akron, OH, and Joyce and Frank Mutz of Manassa, VA; 2 nephews, Mike Dickerson of Ohio and John Mutz and his wife Amy of Indiana; a special sister-in-law and her husband, Geneva Burris and her husband Charles; 3 nieces, Linda Stokley and her husband David of Akron, OH, Marla Latham and her husband Don of Virginia, and Theresa Dickerson of Ohio; 12 other nephews and nieces; and a special little girl, Beth Hasey. Pallbearers were John Mutz, Lance Ruble, Steve Mosley, Shane Mosley, Jay Mosley, and Brad Mosley. Burial was in Overton County Memorial Gardens.
