No matter how much I search I cannot find a Bartlett Smith that fits the scant information provided by his marriage certificate to Martha Smith. Homestead, Pennsylvania is very near to Pittsburgh and in 1917 he listed his residence as Akron. The marriage certificate lists he does not know the name of his parents, and they are deceased in 1917; perhaps he was raised in an orphanage and Smith is not the name he was born under. It does seem like Bartlett would be a family name. Although there are many Bartlett Smiths listed in the World War I and World War II registration cards, there is no match for one born about 1886 in Pennsylvania. He could not be found in a census record. There is an orphanage in Gettysburg listed as the Soldier's National Homestead Orphanage. Since it is in Pennsylvania it could be the place Bartlett was raised. Bartlett was 31 when he married Martha and should have been in some census.
