He was a resident of Franklin. He was born May 22, 1932 in Tennessee to the late Jesse and Eva Burks. He is survived by his wife, Mary Burks; children, James Burks, Debra Hayes, and Donna Speck; step children, Alan Nalley and Steve Nalley; several grandchildren and great grandchildren; brother, Phillip Burks; and sister, Lorene Randolph. He was preceded in death by a son, George Burks; step son, Mike Nalley; and his siblings, Ray Burks, Houston Burks, Jesse Burks, and Lovie Reed. Elmo was employed by Kawneer and Stokely Van Camp before retiring. He enjoyed fishing, mushroom hunting, and trading knives. A service will be conducted at 1:00pm Thursday at Wilson St. Pierre Funeral Service & Crematory, Vandivier-Tudor Chapel, 951 N. Main St., Franklin. Friends may call from 11:00am until the service time Thursday at the funeral home. Elmo will be laid to rest at Greenlawn Cemetery.
