During the Civil War, he enlisted with Co. D, 74th Indiana Inf., Sep. 23, 1864 - Jun. 9, 1865. Came to the U.S. with his family , 19 OCT 1851. He applied for U.S. citizenship, Oct. 4, 1856. He married Ursula Fessel, Jan. 18, 1855 at New Albany, IN. NEW ALBANY WEEKLY LEDGER OBITUARY - 04/21/1909 Frederick Gettelfinger, a prominent farmer of Spencer Township, Harrison County, died a few days ago. He was seventy-seven years of age. CORYDON DEMOCRAT OBITUARY - 04/14/1909 Frederick Gettelfinger died at his home in Spencer Township last Saturday, aged 77 years, after an illness of three months. The funeral took place from the Catholic Church at Frenchtown Monday morning, conducted by Rev. Bleuel and the remains were laid to rest in the cemetery of that church. The deceased was a German by birth, came to this country when seventeen years of age with his parents and two sisters and settled in Ohio. Twelve years later he moved to this county and settled in Jackson Township where he lived until about twenty years ago, when he removed into Spencer Township. The deceased leaves, besides his widow, four sons and two daughters, as follows: John, Daniel, Frank and George Gettelfinger, and Mrs. Philip Jacobi and Mrs. Martin Bush, all of this county. He leaves one sister, Mrs. Mary Meyer, of Michigan, his other sister, Mrs. Catherine Bauer, having preceded him to the beyond about fifteen months ago.
