He was born July 28, 1919, in Gilmer County, West Virginia and lived in the Grafton area since the 1950s. He was a member of the Mount Pisgah Missionary Baptist Church, where he served as a Sunday School secretary. He retired in 1984 from Hinchcliff Products in Strongsville, where he graded lumber. He served in the U.S. Army during WWII and was with Company A, 115th Infantry regiment, 29th division at St. Lo, France. He was wounded in France and received the Purple Heart. Mr. Dobbins enjoyed woodworking, making quilting frames, gardening and traveling. He also enjoyed his Army reunions. He is survived by his wife of 68 years, Alice Elizabeth Dobbins (nee Hardman); son, Gerald O. Dobbin, Jr.; three grandsons, James, John and Jerry Dobbins; granddaughter, Jenny Rebecca Scheidler; and nine great-grandchildren. Survivors also include his brothers, Ben Dobbins of Grafton, Zair Dobbins of Grafton, and Oval "Tiny" Dobbins of Elyria. He was preceded in death by his son, Billy Ray Dobbins; sister, Melissa Allman; brother, Lambert Dobbins; and his parents, George and Hallie Dobbins. Friends may call in the Blackburn-Duke Funeral Home, 1021 Main St., Grafton, Sunday, May 18, 2014, from 5 until 8 P.M. Funeral services will be held Monday, May 19, 2014, in the Mount Pisgah Missionary Baptist Church, 39888 Parsons Rd., Grafton, at 11 A.M., with Pastor Joe Dossa officiating.
