James David McClain (McLain) was the son of Robert Andrew McClain (McLain) and Ann (maiden name unkn); he had the following siblings: Daniel Charles who married Malinda Ann Yarnell (twin of Polly), and Margaret McLain b. 1793 in Knoxville, Knox Co., TN. He also had the following half-siblings (mother: Susannah Marshall): Joseph b. 1766 in Randolph Co., NC; Sarah b. 19 Mar 1772; Andrew Francis b. abt 1774 in NC; John Richard b. 26 Feb 1776 in Randolph Co., NC; Mary b. 1782 in NC; William b. abt 1784 in Randolph Co., NC, and Stephen McLain b. 1785 in NC. He married Polly Yarnell (buried at this cem.).
