James Walton Eldridge Jr. Funeral services for Mr. James Walton Eldridge Jr., 71, of Alpine, were conducted at 3:30 p.m. Monday, August 16, 1999, from the chapel of Speck Funeral Home with Bro. Aron Dillon and Rev. Larry Thomas officiating. Burial was in Green Hill Cemetery with Speck Funeral Home in charge of the arrangements. Mr. Eldridge, a former sheriff of Overton County, a farmer, and a dozer operator, died Friday, August 13, 1999, at Livingston Regional Hospital. Born August 10, 1928, in Akron, OH, he was the son of the late Walton and Helen Marie Lee Eldridge. In addition to his parents, he was preceded in death by a son, James Edward Eldridge. He was a member of First Baptist Church in Livingston, Livingston Lodge #259, past master of West Fork #648, Chapter and Council, V.F.W., and American Legion. Survivors include his wife, Lois Eldridge, Alpine; a daughter and son-in-law, Doris and Larry Cooper, Alpine; four brothers, Charles Eldridge, Allons, Robert Eldridge, San Diego, CA, and Shirley Eldridge and Joe Eldridge, both of Knoxville; a sister, Mary Lou Hansbarger, Knoxville; and a granddaughter, Amy Cooper, Alpine. Pallbearers were Mike Boswell, Matt Smith, Jeff Collins, Doug Ledbetter, Kent Copeland, David Vaughn Copeland, Kenneth Swallows, and Gerald David Norris. Honorary pallbearers were Jerry Hancock, Ricky Hunter, Jimmy Hunter, David Eldridge, Steve Eldridge, B. Jay Todd, George Sells, and Larry Joe Poston.
