Notes

  • Jesse Paul Hughes, Jr., 55, passed away unexpectedly Jan. 10, 2012. His long-awaited reunion with sister, Terri Lynn, Grandma Lizzi, and Grandma King is now eternally fulfilled. He was born March 20, 1956, to Jess Hughes, Sr. and Kay (King) Hughes. A 1975 graduate of Pendleton Heights High School, he was a lifelong resident of Anderson/Madison County. He was an employee of Gas America. He was an avid sports fan, in particular of basketball. The Purdue Boilermakers were his No. 1, but the Pacers, with Reggie Miller and Rik Smits, were close behind. He and his dad, Jess, were major AHS Indians fans and season ticket holders for many years. Also big Colts fans, they had the opportunity to see two of their games, once played in the Hoosier Dome, and then again later on the 50-yard line at Lucas Oil Stadium. Jesse Paul was a tried and true All-American kind of guy. He loved the flag, he was in awe of the American Eagle, and loved American Indian history. A true patriot, he revered with great pride the good ole U.S. of A.! And then there was Elvis! He said one of the highlights of his life was making the pilgrimage to Graceland in 2006 with his Aunt Gladys and his Mom and Dad. The trip was Aunt Gladys' promise to make a dream come true. Baptized in Tennessee at age 15, Jesse Paul was affiliated with the Church of Christ. "Farther along we'll know all about it, farther along we'll understand why..." He was preceded in death by his sister, Terri Lynn Hughes Cox; paternal grandparents, Pat and Lizzi Hughes; maternal grandparents, George and Carrie King; and numerous uncles, aunts and cousins. Left with cherished memories, survivors are his parents; daughters, Kera and Karlee Hughes; brother, Glen Hughes; stepchildren, Stephen Smith, Kelsey and Lucas Vinson; niece, Mandi Cox; aunt, Gladys Rollins; aunt, Grace and uncle, Bill Foland; uncle, George and aunt, Alice King; special cousins, Cathy Baker and Mark Schwab; numerous other cousins and their families; Jan, Kera's mother and Paul, Karlee's mother. Services will be 2 p.m. Saturday at Rozelle-Johnson Funeral Service with Ryan Smith, Steve Cunningham and Press Higginbotham of Lindberg Road Church of Christ officiating. Burial will be in Anderson Memorial Park Cemetery.
