John Hamlet enlisted as a Private in Company G, 8th Regiment, Tennessee on 11-12-1862 in Tullahoma, TN. He fought in the Battle of Murfreesboro and was wounded and captured by the Uniom on 12-31-1862. He subsequently died on 2-13-1863 in Murfreesboro while a captive of the Union army.
