Did he, John R McClain, do time for first degree murder committed in 1865? Charged by a civil council per Government document in the Gallery section. He doesn't show in any Census after 1880 and his FAG page says he is a widower. But his wife, Sarah Ellen. is remarried in 1899 to a Mr. Gilmer and has another child, Edwin Charless. NOW I can not find Edwin McClain other than the 1900 Census, living with his mom, sister and step-dad.
