John Wood was the son of Clement Wood and Hannah Alldridge (both buried at this cem.); *see his father's gravesite for his siblings. He married (1) Mary A. Seneth Tiller (buried at this cem.) in 1846 in Knox Co., TN; they had the following children all born in Knox Co., TN: Eveline b. 1848, Augustus M. b. 1850, and Milton D. Wood b. 1851. He married in 1858 (2) Nancy Margaret Worthington b. 29 Oct 1838 d. 21 Apr 1905 in Knox Co., TN (buried at this cem.); they had one son: Obediah Paul Wood b. 1862 in Knox Co., TN. Mr John Wood, one of the oldest and most respected citizens of the 8th civil district of this county, while crossing Knob Fork Creek, a small stream running through his farm, Saturday morning, fell from his foot log and was drowned. It is not known how long he had been in the water when found by his daughter, Miss Allie. Mr Wood had been in declining health for several months past and being at the advanced age of 76 years, it is believed that when he attempted to cross the foot log on his way home, he lost his balance and fell into the creek. The water was very shallow at the place where Mr Wood lost his life, and it is thought that he received injuries from the fall that rendered him unconscious. Strange to say that not even his hat was misplaced from his head and his walking cane which he had carried for many years was firmly grasped in his right hand. He was buried in the family burying ground at Glenwood, near his home on yesterday afternoon at three o'clock. His remains were followed to the grave by a large concourse of relatives and friends. --Knoxville Daily Journal, Mon, 18 Nov 1889--
