Lester Ray Mayberry was born on April 29, 1904, in Jackson County, Tennessee. His parents were Paul Anderson Mayberry and Peggy A.Chaffin Mayberry; his step-father was Peter Kuykendall Mayberry. Lester married Lena Wheeler on August 13, 1940, in Jackson County. The couple had three sons--Billy, Kenneth, and Elmer--and two daughters--Leona (Mrs. Larry M. Allen) and Daisy (Mrs. Michael T. Pryor). Lester was a life-long member of the Church of Christ. He and Lena made their home in the McCoinsville Community where they farmed for a living. Lester died on March 19, 1985, at the Jackson County Hospital. He was buried in the Pharris Cemetery with Johnny Fox officiating. In addition to his wife and children and five grandchildren, he was survived by Fatima "Faye" (Mrs. Walter B. Minchey) and Zula (Mrs. Lon D. Chaffin), two of his sisters. His wife Lena died six years later and was buried beside him
