  • COOKEVILLE - Funeral services for Mrs. Martha Alice Adkins, 68, of Cookeville, will be held at 11 a.m. on Tuesday, Dec. 23, from the Cookeville chapel of Hooper-Huddleston & Horner Funeral Home. Interment will follow in Algood City Cemetery. The family will receive friends from 5-8 p.m. today, Monday, Dec. 22, and from 10 a.m. until time of services on Tuesday at the funeral home. Mrs. Adkins died Saturday afternoon, Dec. 20, 2014, in Cookeville Regional Medical Center, surrounded by her adoring family. She was born Nov. 16, 1946, in Algood to the late Howard E. and Anna Louise Bowman Cobble. Martha attended Algood High School. She worked for Acme Boot Company and later for the Putnam County School System as a cook at Jere Whitson Elementary School. She served on the Putnam County Fair Board, serving as president for one year. Mrs. Adkins will be remembered for her deep and abiding love for her family. A devoted wife and mother, she had a special love for her grandchildren. She enjoyed square dancing with her husband, flowers and gardening. She was a longtime member of Wirmingham Church of Christ in Monroe. She is survived by her husband of nearly 50 years, Joe Frank Adkins (whom she married June 5, 1965, in Jackson County); a son, Rick Adkins; a daughter, Tammy Hoover; her grandchildren, Wade (Amanda) Adkins, Wesley Adkins, Jon Michael Hoover and Grant Hoover, all of Cookeville; a brother, David (Jane) Cobble of Rickman; a sister, Linda Smith (Aaron) Newberry of Monroe; her sisters-in-law, Norene (Sam) Tallent and Nora Cobble, all of Algood. In addition to her parents, she was preceded in death by her brother, Joe Cobble; a special daughter, Angela Migliore Adkins; and her mother-in-law and father-in-law, Minnie and Howard Adkins. Pallbearers will be Wade Adkins, Wesley Adkins, Jon Michael Hoover, Grant Hoover, Greg Cobble and Trevor Cobble.
