Mickey Kay Parsons Feb. 28, 1952 - June 16, 2013 The Herald Bulletin ANDERSON - The glorious, sunny Father's Day, Sunday, June 16, 2013, turned abruptly bittersweet and surreal, as Mickey Kay (Hughes) Parsons unexpectedly departed her earthly body for the long-awaited heavenly reunion with beloved son Jamie Oscar Lunsford. Mickey was born Feb. 28, 1952, in Anderson, to Douglas and Cona Mae (Harper) Hughes. The second of four children, she loved to joke, "Mom always said I came out showing my behind!" She graduated mid-term from Anderson High School and moved to Columbus, Ohio, to live with dad, Doug Hughes and stepmother, Betty. It was her self-proclaimed "hippy period." Upon returning to Anderson, she worked for various companies through the years, among them Western Electric, United Technologies, Community Hospital and, lastly, Hoosier Park. A lifelong member of the Church of Christ, Mickey was baptized at Hillcrest Church of Christ as a teen. Her faith carried her through countless challenges, setbacks and health issues. Mickey was a country girl, loved her cowgirl hat and always had a bandana stuck in her waistband or pocket. Outdoors, digging in the dirt, planting flowers and popping out dandelions, she was a happy girl! Put her on the John Deere mower and her day was perfect. Seashells, the beach and ocean, the mountains, sunsets ... she delighted in nature and God's blessings. She loved angels, and her collection provided soothing peace and tranquility. She totally adored her grandchildren and cherished the summer times they'd spend with her at "the farm" when they were little. Collin was Jamie's "mini-me," Haley was her little dress-up doll, and Dylan was her little critter lover. Mickey Kay was like a female version of James Dean . . . a free spirit, full of p*** and vinegar, with a come-what-may attitude. Eclectic, that's the word! A bit of a fashionista, she gravitated to any and all things that sparkled! She was crazy in love with all things Tinkerbell! She was hilarious! At her best she sparkled from the inside out! That luminescence of her sweet spirit, now set free, shall light the way for all who love and cherish having known Mickey Kay! She was preceded in death by son, Jamie Lunsford; father, Douglas Hughes; grandparents, Paskell and Lizzie Hughes, and Alvin and Jessie Harper; stepfather, Ray Winkel; niece, Cheree Hughes; brother-in-law, Roy Robinson; and beloved cousins, Donnie Hughes, Jesse Paul Hughes Jr., Rick Musick; and aunts and uncles. Surviving with treasured memories are Travis Lunsford, son; Haley, Collin and Dylan, grandchildren; Cona Mae Winkel, mother; Betty Hughes, stepmother; Vickie Robinson, sister; Randy Hughes, brother and wife ("sister"), Brenda; Tammy Hughes, sister; Tim Winkel, brother; Nikki Watson, sister and husband, Kevin; Tony Hughes, brother and wife, Carla; numerous nieces, nephews and their children, aunts, uncles, cousins and special friends, all of whom know who they are . . . Aunt Gladys and her late husband, Harvey, in gratitude for their help during Jamie's battle and Willie and Daffo Ferrell for their amazing support and love. Cremation has taken place. A Celebration of Life Memorial will take place Sunday at 1 p.m. at the Middletown Community Building, 135 S. Fifth St., Middletown. Please join family and friends for a casual , pitch-in luncheon, and share our stories, favorite music and memories . . . just how Mickey would want us to remember her! Located in the town park, a water park is available for the kiddies with supervision. In lieu of flowers, donations to a charity of your choice, or a small token toward the expenses and Robert Loose services may be made.
