William M. "Bill" Dowler, 86, of Torch, Ohio, passed away peaceably on May 30, 2015, surrounded by his family. He was born July 1, 1928, in Elliot, Ohio, the son of Charles P. and Donna Sawyer Dowler. Bill lived a full life, active up until two years ago when his health began to fail. He worked as a painter in union locals No. 890 in Washington, D.C., and No. 1144 in Parkersburg. He raised a variety of animals on his farm over the years and loved working in his greenhouse. He also enjoyed baking during the holidays. Bill served in the U. S. Army in post-war Germany, and the U. S. Air Force during the Korean War. He was a member of Gospel Baptist Church in Torch. He is survived by his wife of 60 years, Phyllis Oiler Dowler; sons, Charles Dowler and Mark (Kathy) Dowler; 10 grandchildren; and 11 great grandchildren. In addition to his parents, he is preceded in death by his son, Matthew; infant daughter, Jennifer; and sisters, Dorothy Dowler and Betty Dowler Beha. Special thanks to the staff of the Camden Clark Medical Center, ICU and Dr. Michael Moses, Bill's physician and good friend of many years. Funeral services will be 1 p.m. Tuesday, June 2, 2015, at Kimes Funeral Home, 521 Fifth St., Parkersburg, with Pastor Jay Hubbard officiating. Burial will follow at Rockland Cemetery, Belpre, Ohio, with Military Rites. Visitation will be 4-8 p.m. today at the funeral home and also from noon until service time Tuesday.
