Notes

  • (Medical):Buster returned from World War II, having been stabbed with a bayonet and hit with shrapnel from a bomb. The shrapnel caused him to lose some sensation in his left leg. Buster had his gall bladder removed, after 60 years of age; he also had knee replacement (after 66 years of age). After retiring he had a partial lung removal due to cancer (after 66 years of age). Buster developed an enlarged heart in later years and in 2003 he had a pacemaker installed. When Buster was getting his final exam before entering the hospital to have his knee replaced, they discovered a spot on his right lung. The spot was cancer and it was removed, in 1993, and it was very fortunate to be discovered early and he had a complete recovery. The only ill affects were asthma and emphysema, which turned into COPD as he aged. As I am writing this in June of 2008 my dad is in the hospital due to complications from COPD and Congestive Heart Failure. He is still residing in his home on Havana Avenue, by himself, and driving his Lincoln Town Car, only needing aid in managing his medications and doctors' appointments. His mind gets fuzzy occassionaly, but for the most part it is in good working order and his memory is still outstanding. I can only hope I have inherited a good deal of my genes from him.
