He worked as a supervisor of a corrigated box factory and as a farmer. He also served in the United States Navy. Born December 13, 1939, in Overton County, he was the son of the late Raymond and Ruby (Hughes) Carter. In addition to his parents, he was preceded in death by three brothers, R.D. Carter, Junior Carter, and Vanis Carter; and a sister, Murrel Dean Wasson. Survivors include his caregiver and special companion, Connie Wilson of Rickman; a daughter, Jessica Carter of Rickman; a son, Denis Carter and wife, Gail, of Stow, OH; three sisters, Linda Morgan of Cookeville, Oletta Norris of Hilham, and Inez Wakefield of Utah; a half-sister, Betty Cook, and husband, Luther, of Ohio; a brother, Billy Joe Carter of California; a half-brother, Jimmy Carter of Livingston; and several nieces and nephews. Pallbearers were Mark Guy, Adam Hammock, William Ledbetter, Leroy Phillips, William Grimsley, and Charles Woody. Graveside military honors by James T. Davis, VFW Post 5062 of Livingston.
